I canot fault staff, their treatment towards me, they were informative, with every query I had, the ward is clean, the ward is happy and vibrant, leave when requested.

Suggested improvements
Sometimes lunch is sandwich (of) and soup - not the best but this is not everyday so not a huge issue.

Review of Gosfield Ward

I didn't realise how much I abused my mental health until I was checked into the ward, but fully understand now. All the staff were very accommodating and helpful and have certainly put me in the right direction to get the help I have always needed

Suggested improvements
The communication between the hierarchy of the staff could be better, but I understand the jobs are filled with incredible pressure and I am very appreciative of their hard work and time

My First night after surgery was spent on Wivenhoe Ward. I found the night staff on this ward not too pleasant as when I asked for a hot drink at 4am because my mouth and throat were a little sore and I was unable to drink cold drinks, when I asked I was reminded that I had been given a hot drink at midnight. I asked again at just gone 4am I was told ''its not the staff nurses job to make a hot drink and there are other patients, i was only asking for a hot drink i wasn't asking for a bed bath or any help it was just a hot drink and at that time of the morning there weren't many patients awake. It made me feel teary to say the least. I was thankful to be moved to Mersea Elective Care Ward the following day, the staff were so different, very caring with lovely bedside manners. I was looked after by a health care assistant called Mark, unfortunately i cannot remember the the other staff names but they were all pleasant and approachable even though all their patients were awake most of the night. A little staff training on Wivenhoe ward wouldn't go a miss as not once did the night staff ask myself or any of the other ladies on the 4 bed ward that i was on if we were OK or needed anything . The ward itself was very clean but it could be quite boring for long term patients as there was no bed TV for hire.

Review of Ardleigh Ward
9th January 2023

The healthcare assistants and occupational therapists were attentive and caring. They reassured me when I was upset, distressed with my care plan or incidents.

Suggested improvements
Communication between nurses was poor, and their management of the rules on the ward were inconsistent. One to one support was difficult to get and felt more like an inconvenience which didn’t help with opening up about issues I was having. I was supposed to be on level 3 observations during mealtimes and for an hour after and more often than not, this did not happen due to lack of staff or the allocations had just not been made. I was also discharged with the reassurance that I was going to receive check-ins from the ward, care coordinator and will be under the care of the ED team and community MH team. I have not received contact from anyone since my discharge. This is causing me a lot of distress due to the uncertainty and lack of care plan
